If you've ever tried a Baidu Pan download for a dataset or checkpoint from a paper, you know the drill: pan.baidu.com wants a mainland phone number to sign up, anything over a few hundred MB forces the desktop client, and free accounts are throttled hard. I measured it: 53 KB/s single stream, 71 KB/s with 16 connections — a 1 GB file takes 4–5 hours. Only the paid SVIP tier removes the cap (19 MB/s in my tests).
How to download from Baidu Pan without an account in 2026, honestly:
- Register anyway: works for some countries' phone numbers, not most, and still slow.
- Ask the authors for a Google Drive / HF mirror: best outcome if they reply.
- Use a fetch service that holds its own SVIP account and gives you a direct link.
